Assam Home Secretary shoots himself, minutes after wife’s death from cancer
Shiladitya Chetia, a 44-year-old IPS officer from the 2009 batch, tragically took his own life in an ICU at a private hospital in Guwahati, Assam. This devastating event occurred just minutes after the attending physician declared the death of his wife, Agomoni Barbaruah, who had been battling cancer for a long time. Chetia had been on leave for the past four months to care for his ailing wife, who had been receiving medical treatment at Nemcare Hospital in Guwahati.
The couple was hospitalised for about two months and during this time Shiladitya Chetia had taken a separate room. On the day of the incident, the doctor informed him about his wife's death and about 10 minutes later a loud sound came from his room, then everyone in the hospital came and saw that Shiladitya Chetia had shot himself. The entire Assam Police family is in deep mourning over this tragic loss.
